Big Bass Campground sits on the southern edge of the Ocala National Forest, a small, seasonal site that offers a genuine forest escape without a large footprint: there are 19 total campsites, and each is set up to accommodate both RVs and tents so groups with mixed gear can camp together. The campground is not far from the Ocklawaha River and lies near Doe Lake Recreation Area, so while the loops themselves are focused on basic camping in a wooded setting, visitors can easily reach nearby water and forest recreation. The site accepts both short- and long-term stays during its open season, and you should be aware that occasional black bear sightings have been reported plan for bear-aware food storage and proper campsite practices even though specific wildlife facilities are not guaranteed. This is a lightly staffed location, so practical arrangements and questions are handled by phone: for reservations or refund requests call (877) 444-6777, and for general information call the campground's limited-staff office at (352) 625-2520. Because staffing and services are constrained and the campground operates seasonally, it's a good idea to call ahead to confirm dates, reservation policies and what amenities (if any) will be available during your stay. The combination of a small footprint, mixed RV-and-tent sites, and proximity to the Ocklawaha River and Doe Lake makes Big Bass a straightforward base for people who want easy access to the Ocala National Forest without a large developed campground.
