Buck Lake Group Campground sits on the shore of Buck Lake in the heart of Ocala National Forest, an expanse of sand pine scrub, lakes and springs in north-central Florida. The site is designed for a single group there is one campsite that accommodates both RVs and tents and can host up to 50 guests so when you reserve the facility your party has exclusive use of the area. The lakeshore includes a sandy swimming beach and a short, scenic 1.7-mile loop that connects with a segment of the 1,400-mile Florida Trail, making it easy to combine swims, short hikes and lakefront picnics in a compact visit. Anglers will find panfish, bass and crappie in Buck Lake, and boat access from the campsite lets you work the shoreline or explore a little farther afield; Alexander Springs, with its clear, spring-fed swimming and a 7-mile canoe run, is also nearby. Facilities at Buck Lake are intentionally simple: this is primitive group camping. The site provides a vault toilet, a hand pump for drinking water, six picnic tables and a group campfire ring enough to support a reunion or gathering but without hookups or on-site staff. The location is unstaffed year-round, so groups should make a reservation in advance (the reservation grants exclusive use) and contact the Ocala office at (352) 669-3522 for current fees, availability and any seasonal details before traveling. Access to the campground is via forest roads east of Ocala follow State Route 40 to State Route 19 south and then Forest Road 595-2 for about four miles to the site so plan for a short drive on National Forest roads to reach the lakeshore.
