Juniper Springs Recreation Area sits in the heart of the Ocala National Forest along Highway 40, roughly three to four dozen miles east of Ocala/Silver Springs and a few miles west of the Highway 40/19 junction. The campground's 76 sites are arranged in three shaded loops close to the springs and Juniper Run; 57 sites are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents and 19 are tent-only, and every site includes a picnic table, grill, campfire ring, lantern post and room for pitching a tent. The springs themselves form a complex of bubbling vents beneath a canopy of cabbage palms and oaks, and the day-use area contains a warm natural pool that draws swimmers in season. Canoeing is a major draw the Juniper Run is a seven-mile downstream float through the Juniper Prairie Wilderness (private canoes allowed; inflatables are not) and on land you can walk a segment of the Florida Trail, explore a shorter interpretive nature trail inside the facility, or join summer interpretive programs. Wildlife is abundant here: expect to see turtles, shore and woodland birds, deer and raccoon and, if you're lucky, river otters or the uncommon albino gray squirrel; note that alligators inhabit some waterways, so supervise children near the water. Facilities are straightforward and family-friendly rather than full-service: there are hot showers, flush toilets and a dump station, but no sites with full hookups. A small convenience store near the campground stocks basic camping and beach supplies, drinks and ice cream, while restaurants, gas and wider shopping are about 10 miles away. Juniper Springs has been recognized as one of Reserve America's Top 100 Family Campgrounds, which helps explain its popularity reservations and cancellations follow the standard Recreation.gov policies (a $10 service fee is withheld from refunds for cancellations and late cancellations may apply), and refunds are not issued for inclement weather for camping, gear rentals, or day-use fees. For facility-specific questions call the recreation area at (352) 625-3147 before you go.

“What a wonderful spring and river and campsites were great. Only complaint is that it would be nice that someone would fix the boardwalk and all the stuff that’s enclosed by fencing because of deterioration and decay. ”
“Very nice camping at Juniper Springs. A trail from the campground goes to the swimming area. A nice little museum helps visitors learn about the park's history. ”
